Early detection of kidney disease is vital to prolong life
Kidney disease commonly affects older cats and early detection is vital to allow us to manage this serious condition most effectively. In order to be proactive about this, your friends in Cara Vets have launched this *FREE Kidney Urine Test in order to screen your cat for kidney disease and to help keep your cat as healthy as possible.
If your cat is aged 10+ and you wish to avail of this *FREE urine test kit, simply pop into either of our locations in Dublin 15 or Dublin 7 to pick up your FREE reusable, urine sample collection kit.
We will then check your cat's urine concentration as it has been found to be the first thing that changes when their kidneys start struggling. Your cat's kidneys can be up to 75% damaged before they can show any clinical signs of being unwell with kidney disease.
If a urine test is found to have a low urine concentration, then we we will contact you via telephone. In this case, a visit to the clinic may be required for which there will be a full consultation charge. Please note, however, there would be no consultation charge for any pets that are in our Pet HealthCare Plan (PHP), as PHP members get unlimited FREE Consultations). *Any further treatment, food, blood or urine tests will be charged as normal.

- Drop the sample back to us within 24 hours of collecting it from your cat.
Who can avail of this?
Cats aged 10+ are entitled to one free Kidney Urine Test every year.
Important to Note:
- Samples must be presented back to us within 24 hours of collecting the urine sample from your cat
- Don't store sample in the fridge
Handy Tip: Did you know?
The granules are re-usable
After you have collected the urine sample from your cat using our free urine test kit, there is no need to throw out the granules. The granules from the urine test kit can be washed and re-used at a future date as the granules themselves don't actually absorb the urine. We all know how hard it can be to collect a sample from your cat, so it's very handy to keep the (washed) granules for a later date in case you ever have to collect a sample from your cat again.
